Hermès takes 3 floors at 550 Madison for its U.S. HQ

Hermès has signed a lease to take three floors of office space at 550 Madison Ave., a landmarked Midtown tower that’s currently being redeveloped. The French luxury design house is the second tenant to sign on at the building, after property and casualty insurance firm Chubb (NYSE: CB) signed a lease for 10 floors and 240,000 square feet in November.

Manhattan’s Former Sony Building Lands Chubb as Anchor Tenant

The insurance firm Chubb has signed as anchor tenant at Manhattan’s 550 Madison Ave., the former Sony Building. The company is leasing 240,000 square feet (22,300 square meters) across 10 floors of the tower, landlord Olayan Group said Thursday. The deal, which spans beyond a decade, represents more than 30% of the 41-story property’s offices.

550 Madison Avenue Officially Unveils New Lobby In Midtown East, Manhattan

YIMBY attended the recent unveiling of the newly renovated lobby of 550 Madison Avenue, a 37-story, 684-foot-tall office skyscraper in Midtown East. Designed by Gensler and developed by The Olayan Group and RXR Realty, the project involves a 21,000-square-foot indoor-outdoor overhaul of the 1984 postmodern landmark from Philip Johnson and John Burgee.

A massive blue spherical stone now hangs in the lobby of the landmarked office building 550 Madison Avenue, part of a broader project to revitalize Philip Johnson’s postmodern gem. The Olayan Group on Wednesday unveiled the renovated space, a project which included preserving the 110-foot arched entry, adding a multi-story window across from the entrance with views through to the new garden, still under construction, and the centerpiece art commission.
